Hi guys,
My name is Pat Kelly.
This is my blog.
As is customary with blogs, I’ll be using this space to write about stuff. Exactly what stuff will vary depending on my mood.
Topics will include my life, family, and career as well as books, music, horror movies, comics and anything else I might be geeking out over at any given moment. In addition to all that you might even see some fiction and long form humor pieces here. Sometimes it will be funny. Other times, not so much...
Regardless of content, I give you my word that no matter what I write here, I will do my best to make sure it is interesting.
I guess the best way for me to kick this thing off is to tell you a little bit about myself.
I have a beautiful wife who also happens to be one of the smartest people I know. She works in medicine and her dedication to her job and the people she cares for is almost unfathomable to me. Sometimes I well up just thinking about it. And she carries that same care and dedication over to her family. She is kind, loving and supportive, and she hates it when I rub my feet together.
Our daughter is almost two and she is already one of the most amazing people I have ever met. She likes to talk and be silly, and climb on things. Sometimes she does all three at the same time. Sometimes she makes up songs off the top of her head about mac n’ cheese. Did I mention that she’s a weirdo? I have to take credit for that one. She inherited my weirdness just as surely as she inherited my eyes. I just pray she doesn’t inherit my excessive back hair...
We have a dog. He is big and fuzzy and loveable. And, he sheds a lot. It is not uncommon to see a dog hair tumbleweed drift across our faux-hardwood floor if a breeze catches it just right. He has never chewed up one of my slippers, but he has pulled siding off the house and has completely destroyed our fence with his brute strength. One time he ate an entire Tiki Torch. He also has an unreasonable fear of ironing boards. The mere mention of the word sends him running for cover under the coffee table. It never gets old.
I write and perform stand-up comedy in my spare time. For a long time, stand-up comedy was my only creative outlet and the only thing (until my wife and family came along) that kept me (reasonably) sane while trudging through the monotony of my day job.
I have been at my day job for over a decade. I am good at what I do, and I have even been reasonably successful at it. But it does not fulfill me spiritually. It took me a long time to realize that I was not happy with my career choice, and almost as long to get up the courage to do something about it.
Now it is time for me to take a chance on doing something I’ve wanted to do since I was a kid, which is to pursue writing for a living. So here I am, embarking on a new career in copywriting/content marketing. I will be working freelance to start, at least until I can build a portfolio to help me secure a job with an agency somewhere down the line. So, if you or someone you know is in need of copywriting services please consider giving a newbie a chance. Since I’m just starting out my prices are very reasonable and what I lack in experience I will make up for with, enthusiasm, hard work and dedication. That much I can promise you.
Changing careers is fun and exciting, but also a little scary. I know that I have much to learn and a lot of hard work ahead of me before I am where I want to be, but I also know that I have the talent and dedication to make this work.
I’m not sure where all of this is going to lead me, but I am excited to find out.
Here goes nothing...
